“Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki” shakes the skies of East Nusa Tenggara once again on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at exactly 5:35 PM WITA. Located in East Flores Regency, this volcano erupted violently, with the volcanic ash column reaching an estimated height of 10,000 meters above the summit (11,584 meters above sea level). A report from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG), Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), confirms that this volcanic activity poses a significant threat and has the potential to expand. Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki has erupted in several previous years, including 1969, 1970, 1990, 1991, 1999, 2002, 2003, 2023, with the most recent eruption continuing until 2024. Currently, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki is on Level IV or “Alert” status, indicating a significant increase in risk.

This eruption has had widespread impacts, not only on the local community but also on an international scale. A total of 87 flights were canceled, including 66 international flights and 21 domestic flights. The most affected international routes include those to and from Australia and Singapore.
